It is a bacterial disease being caused by bacteria i.e. may be staphylococcal or streptococcal bacteria.
A skin infection occurs with moist purulent, yellow crusted sores surrounded by redness.
Spreads forming new sores.
Generally found on the face.
Method of spread
It spread through direct contact with secretions from open sores and nose.
It can also be spread from person to person via hands.

In case of staphylococcal bacteria usually take 4-10 days from date of contact.
In case of staphylococcal bacteria usually takes 1- 3 days from date of contact.
(The time during which an infectious agent may be transferred directly or indirectly)
If untreated, as long as sores are present, or 24 hours after antibiotic therapy has been started.
Avoid close contact with infected person or children.
Avoid child to go to school, day care, playground etc. for 24 hours after start of antibiotics.
Make sure to provide separate clothes, towel and soap to them.
As advise by the physician for antibiotic therapy.
If affected area is wet then keep it clean and covered.
Guide children not to touch sores.
Keep nails short and clean for preventing itching.
Wash hands properly.
To avoid sharing toilet articles
