It is a bacterial disease and caused by Bordet ella pertussis. It is a respiratory illness commonly known as whooping cough.
Usually starts with cold like symptoms.
Repeated violent coughing with whoop and sometimes followed by vomiting.
Method of spread
Spread by sneezing and coughing by infected person.
Direct contact with nose and throat secretions of infected person.

Usually takes 6-20 days from date of contact.

Highly communicable in early stages before the cough and up to for 3 weeks later.
It takes 5 days of antibiotic therapy to cure infection.
Keep away young children and infants from the infected person.
Antibiotics should be given to house maids and person in close contacts.
Disposal of contaminated tissues should be carefully done.
